Mardi Gras Fundraiser
Peace Serves Up Hope on Fat Tuesday

Burbank, IL – February 11, 2008 – Queen of Peace High School’s French National Honor Society and French Club worked tirelessly on Monday and Tuesday of Mardi Gras week to fatten the wallet of the humanitarian-aid organization Doctors Without Borders. Students baked French desserts to sell during lunch periods and sold beaded Mardi Gras necklaces, raising a total of $300 for the organization. This is enough money to provide over 300 disaster victims with clean water for an entire month.
Doctors Without Borders is a non-governmental organization that was created in 1971 by a small group of French doctors. Doctors, nurses, midwives and logisticians provide health care and medical training to populations in more than 70 countries, often in war-torn regions.
Working for this cause fits in perfectly with Peace’s mission to collaborate with community organizations in an effort to help others. After Hurricane Katrina, Doctors Without Borders was one of the first groups to send doctors. They have responded to the crisis in Africa. According to the French Club, Doctors Without Borders’ push for human rights and the compassion they have for others works in conjunction with Peace’s service mission.
Because of the work Peace has done to raise money for Doctors Without Borders, the school was named a Partner by the organization last year.
