Peace Receives Boost for Second-Year Engineering Program

Greetings!

My name is Susan Brauer, and I'm an Electrical Engineer and manager of a design and development team at a large Chicago area telecommunications company. I'm also an alumna of Queen of Peace High School. In a world where, every year, the need for well-trained engineers and technical experts is growing by leaps and bounds, it is more important than ever to offer the young women at Queen of Peace the opportunity to become an integral part of that world and to share in molding its future. Imagine what it would be like for our young women to take a pre-engineering course that gives them the experience of thinking and acting like an engineer. At Peace, we want to empower our students with the opportunity at the high school level to increase their knowledge and confidence in themselves and their abilities, as well as bring to light the choices that an engineering/technical degree can create in their lives.

The Infinity Project, created by the SMU School of Engineering and Texas Instruments, is an innovative, yearlong program that sparks students to pursue careers in engineering and technology. It is presently utilized in over 230 high school and college classrooms across the United States. The aim of this project is to directly link math and science concepts to the technologies that interest today's students - the Internet, cell phones, digital cameras, and electronic music players - thereby showing students how mastering math, science, and design concepts can lead to an exciting career.

Join us... And together we will find the answers to make this dream for more of our young Women of Peace a reality. If ever there was a time when your cooperation could yield instant results and truly impact a student's life, this is the time!

With a now completely wireless campus and laptops in the hands of each and every student by August 2007, there is no better time to expand this unique project. We need your ideas to help raise the $20,000 needed to fund more section of the Infinity Project for Queen of Peace. By helping us integrate this program into the curriculum more fully, you will have a direct hand in ensuring future women engineers.

Recently, a group of Peace alumnae engineers met to discuss this exciting opportunity. From this meeting came a wealth of ideas and great eagerness to make this project a reality. We encourage you to contribute your ideas, help us search for sponsors, or become a sponsor yourself! You can help provide Peace juniors and seniors the opportunity to see the world through the eyes of an engineer. If you would like to receive more information about this program, please contact Dr. Hanlon at 708-458-7600, ext. 212 or email hanlonk@queenofpeacehs.org. Or you can email me at susan@dreamerstapestry.com.

Gratefully,
